How it Works

It is our sincere desire that Operation Free Home will spread across the nation, providing help both for owners and needy families, during a particularly difficult time in our nation's housing market.

A House and Sponsors
The concept is quite simple. You start with a vacant home. It can be a home that you own or home that his owned by someone else. It should be in good condition and in a good neighborhood. You then find sponsors who agree to contribute a set amount per month for one year, to cover the mortgage payments on the house. The amount the sponsors contribute is determined by dividing the monthly mortgage by the number of sponsors.

Get the Word Out
Then get word out in your area to potential recipient families, by contacting the local media, churches and houses of worship. There are dozens of ways to do this, call supermarkets and ask the manager to post notices, ask newspapers to print notices of the contest as a public service announcement in the "Housing for Rent" section and ask local radio stations to announce it also. Applicants will submit their story of hardship and why they are confident that 12 months in your selected home would help them get back on their feet.

Select a Family
Set a timeline for accepting stories, a month to six weeks. Then from the submissions select a family that can reestablish self-sufficiency by being chosen as the "winner." A family that is truly experiencing a hardship that a helping hand will get them through. Even though you are not collecting rent, you need to get signed occupant agreement with the family you put in your home, and a fulfillment agreement with the sponsors.
